Please note - because you will be in Australia for a short time, you can’t go on a contract (which requires a minimum 12 – 24 months), and instead you will be on a pre-paid plan. This means, you must have money/credit on your phone in order to make calls. So when you run out of credit, you just ‘top up’ or ‘recharge’ to make more calls – the good thing is, you are in charge of how much you spend – no surprise bills! Also note, all incoming calls are free, regardless of whether you have enough credit on your phone.

All orders must be placed no later than one week before your arrival in Australia to ensure your SIM is ready to be picked up. If you miss the pickup date for ordering a SIM online for collection at your orientation, you will still be able to purchase a SIM and/or handset upon arrival to your Australian host city, when meeting with the Semester in Australia on-site Resident Director.

Internet information:
Semester in Australia provides a wireless internet service in all our housing, which will be ready and activated for you upon arrival, so you can connect with family and friends and get your university work done with ease throughout the semester.
You will have a wireless internet service provided with your Semester in Australia housing. However, internet in Australia may be very different from what you are used to from your home country. Firstly, internet tends to be a bit slower in Australia. Secondly, we do not have totally ‘unlimited’ plans - instead, plans are a certain amount of data download per month – anywhere from 5Gb to 20Gb per person, depending on location and service availability. This is plenty of data to conduct your academic work, send emails and browse the internet, access Facebook and YouTube, do some Skype calls, etc. You will not be able to upload HD movies/tv shows, play online games, etc as this will use up a lot of data and you will find you run out of internet access before the end of the month. Further explanation regarding internet use in Australia will be outlined to you upon confirming your booking/reservation, but feel free to email Semester in Australia with any questions regarding internet service for your Australian housing location.
